Adventures in 3D

I was in Lyon last week with UK based producer 'Can Communicate' covering a football match in glorious 3D.

Using two Toshiba HD cameras mounted on a specially designed 3D Polecam head, I was able to offer all the flexibility and creativity that Polecam allows.

My position was not the greatest as we had to fit around the main OB unit, but for corner kicks, Polecam , yet again, offered shots not normally seen. The ability to get above the player as he was taking the kick looks great in 2D, but the 3D imaging is really spectacular, I can't wait to cover a match from behind the goal!

It was the first time football had been screened live in 3D and Chris also operated the polecam pitchside. The quality of the stereo footage from the polecam was excellent and worked really well. Chris's operating and understanding what we were trying to achieve in 3D really added to the overall coverage."
